《戈巴契夫，幸會》 ：直搗強者靈魂的柔弱與遺憾，是荷索最大的善意
荷索紀錄片的獨特風格，在於通過多層次的視聽語言，呈現意義的曖昧性。他拒絕隱蔽式的觀察，質疑攝影機催生的事件真實性，以後設的旁白論述對平靜的視覺畫面進行反叛。然而，他鍥而不捨的辯證和探險，源於他對真實的追究。即使他鋪排敘事中的重要史實，但他的核心關懷並非事件本身，而是逃遁於歷史和攝影機景框之外的血肉之軀。

《薩爾加多的凝視》讓我想起許多攝影大師的紀錄片，這些片有一種類似的描述方式。譬如大師為了藝術可以付出任何的代價，甚至遠離他自己的家庭。大師的小孩在年幼的時候並不認識父親，而是當他是一個英雄或是冒險家。紀錄片的後段通常會處理小孩如何面對這樣的父親，從看待一個大師，回到面對一個父親⋯⋯

2020年10月以降，Giloo推出「強人製造」單元，選入四部分別對焦俄羅斯、北韓、菲律賓與美國，卻不約而同地前任或現任統治者為題的紀錄片：《戈巴契夫，幸會》、《我愛金正恩》、《大權在后：前第一夫人伊美黛》、《全球搬弄：班農的王者製造地圖》────它們貼身人物，委身神話之側，一頭鑽進他們周身的光環或迷障裡，搜查真相與謊言被建構和解構的來龍去脈，試圖回應上述問題。
