The artistic expressions that emerged in different ages are utterly distinct. This holds true whether one seeks out the historical vestiges through their context, or simply probes the most fundamental family values, finally arriving at the liberation of personal desires. I yearn for the old cartoons from my childhood TV, the 'sausage uncles' calling out on the streets, and the earthy yet vital art forms unique to Taiwan. But as contemporary society incessantly chases capitalism, art devoid of life grows upon rootless ground. Confronting such a directionless society, the most effective resistance remains the act of watching – discovering those who still retain their soul amidst the vast ocean of streaming, and cherishing them in the depths of our own memories.
Touching the Fingertips of AI
In the ongoing process of technology shaping human civilization, the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is akin to the mysterious black monolith in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. A single touch unleashed a torrent of inspiration and knowledge, altering the trajectory of human destiny. Today, AI not only profoundly impacts industries worldwide but also challenges our traditional understanding of creativity, consciousness, and design practices. Taiwan plays a crucial role in this AI revolution. The Taiwan Design Research Institute, in collaboration with Giloo Documentary, has curated the "2024 Taiwan Design Week" online film festival. Curators Hsieh Tsung-yen, Yu Qian, and Lin Wei-che jointly selected films for the theme "Fingertips Touching AI," inviting viewers to explore the diverse possibilities for design and creation in the future world through cinematic works. These films not only reflect the profound impact of contemporary technological advancements on design but also lead audiences to ponder the future evolution of humanity. Through continuous "touching" and "stimulation," we hope to ignite humanity's innate potential and creativity. Let us together step through this glowing gateway of wisdom and inspiration, to imagine and construct a new world transformed by technological evolution. Perhaps the answers of the future will be entirely different from the past, and we stand at the forefront of this profound transformation.
