This year, Giloo teams up with TIDF to curate a special selection of past TIDF nominees and award-winning films. While you're enjoying the festival in person, don’t forget to sneak in a little break and relive (or... redeem?) some of the unforgettable works from previous editions—now available online.

The struggle is far from over—Taiwan still needs a revolution. From the tangwai movement during the late Martial Law era to more recent protests like the Sunflower Movement and opposition to the Sixth Naphtha Cracker Plant, Taiwan’s people have repeatedly challenged authority. Through collective action, they’ve reshaped public policy and redefined the island’s political landscape. Giloo presents a curated selection of documentaries on Taiwan’s social movements—capturing the pivotal moments, the key players, and the tensions that shaped them. As we revisit these movements through film, we ask: After all that Taiwan has experienced, how many issues still call on us to stand up and take action?

Is justice truly equal for all before the law? Like a queen’s chastity once deemed unquestionable, what happens when rigid systems confront the complexity of human nature and circumstance? Who ultimately defines fairness and justice? A wrongful conviction that dragged on for two decades, a protest movement that pitted flesh and blood against authoritarian rule, a death row inmate executed to the cheers of the public—what role did the “law” play in each of these cases? Should we rise up to question the banality of evil, or quietly submit to it? “Judiciary Class” is a name adapted from the popular Korean series Itaewon Class, drawing on the dual meaning of “classroom” and “course.” It symbolizes a shared space for audiences to learn and grow through the films and writings featured in this program—inviting thoughtful debate, diverse perspectives, and deeper exploration of legal and ethical ideas.
Other than observation from the center, the South Taiwan Film Festival serves as reflections on social stereotypes, the perspectives of locality; of course, there are over two decades of expectation of avant-garde spirit. By a serious of recommendations of South-Award and panorama programs, along with Giloo, we feast you with the most vivid spirit of the South.
Men and women who leave their hometowns to make a living in Kabukicho, a surreal life that unfolds after a same-sex wedding, Amis people fishing for baby eels in the depths of night, a band using music to challenge the system… Through innovative short documentaries, filmmakers capture vivid portraits of people and moments in contemporary society. Join Giloo in diving into the heart of these issues, broadening your perspective, and exploring the rich diversity of today’s world.
