In the height of summer, in a deserted walled village in Hong Kong, their father is dying, the three siblings rush back with their children, the land sale agreement has been signed, but the ritual master fails to show up as promised. By candlelight, the dying father suddenly speaks, he wants a bowl of taro rice. The family starts a fire to cook in the old house, which has no electricity, and to their surprise, their domestic helper, who had been out of touch for years, reappears, having been hiding there. At the dinner table, the semi-conscious father mistakes his adult children for youngsters, and earnestly gives them advice, as memories flood back like a surging tide. As dawn breaks, the father passes away peacefully, everyone watches in silent farewell. On the way out of the village, someone looks back, gazing at the lush green expanse below the mountain. The village is now deserted, but for a family scattered for many years, the doors of their hearts quietly reopen.
