The exhibition takes “the human” as its central theme, reflecting on what it means to exist as a person in this world. It focuses on the intricate, interwoven relationships between self and self, self and others, and self and both physical and virtual environments. The exhibition title borrows from the existential concept of Dasein, or “being there,” to explore humanity’s presence in the here and now. Through this lens, the exhibition opens up multi-layered philosophical inquiries into the human condition and the nature of existence. In extending this curatorial theme, Jut Art Museum collaborates with Giloo, inviting participating artists to curate a selection of eight remarkable films that center on the question of being human. These works return to the essence of what it means to live as a person—interpreting, reflecting, and questioning the many dimensions of humanity, and inviting audiences to contemplate the meaning and possibilities of being born human.
British author Virginia Woolf once said, “To be oneself is the most important thing.” In 2022, what should a woman be? There’s no longer a single answer. Womany presents five powerful stories of women—some real, some fictional—that inspire us to live the most brilliant version of ourselves in every universe. We invite Giloo’s audience to join in: be fearless, be bold, and most importantly, be your true self.
【 CCC Comic Channel × Giloo Documentary “Frames of Autumn: A New Sensory Stroll through Manga” Series 】 Under incomprehensible threats and pressures, some people try to explain the situation, or even solutions. Once a hypothesis for how to cope is grasped, it seems one can ensure their own safety. However, things often happen without reason. Unlike conspiracies or rumors, facts usually lack logical cause and effect, and there's no formula that applies to everyone, everywhere, every time. But as long as we don't overthink or chew on it, we can pretend things won't happen to us. I've selected four films that depict the chaos in everyday life. Wishing you a pleasant viewing experience. 📖 "We Need to Talk About Kevin" pays homage to the short comic "Children Committing Mass Suicide": https://www.creative-comic.tw/zh/book/379/content
【Creative Comic Collection x Giloo "Autumn of Frames — New Sensibility Manga Stroll" Series】At some point, life suddenly becomes abnormal; sometimes it's forced by external circumstances, other times it's an internal unease. These people, who have long since descended into madness, still insist they possess an unblemished sincerity, willing to give everything for a moment yet to come. Watching them desperately try to catch lightning in a torrential downpour, I find it incredibly beautiful. 📖 Hana and Alice pays homage to the short comic "Invisible Dance": https://www.creative-comic.tw/zh/book/378/content
“We are all in one fight, and our freedom is all the same freedom.” — Far From the Tree Poverty, disability, illness, gender, race, or non-normative forms of labor—at first glance, our lives and bodies may seem worlds apart. But such differences can make us forget what we share as human beings: love and desire, dignity and pain, vulnerability and the need to be seen. Let’s watch a film. No one is an island. Somewhere in the story, you’ll find the corner that connects to your own.
A modern-day tragic woman who endures humiliation, sells herself, and even kills for love—branded with infamy and endless tears, yet still relentlessly pursues true affection. A free-spirited café waitress who casts wild and whimsical spells to rewrite her daily life. Four legendary actresses come together on camera for the first time, sharing laughter and stories from over half a century of friendship. A mysterious wandering nanny revealed to be the most iconic street photographer of our time. A drifter who gave up everything, carrying only a humble tent, living a lawless, homeless life at the edge of the world. These women all have one thing in common—they defy expectations and live life on their own terms.
This annual campaign, centered on amplifying the voices of those with lived experiences of poverty, is themed this year around “Home.” For some, home is a space of safety. For others, it’s wherever their loved ones are. For many, a fixed address is necessary just to access social welfare. Through a series of in-person events and curated online screenings, we aim to expand society’s understanding of “home” beyond conventional frameworks—to open a window to new imaginings of what home can be. This “window” represents not only a small yet vital need for many renters, but also a passage through which marginalized voices can reach the wider world. By opening this window, we invite society to embrace the realities of those on the margins—and in doing so, unlock new possibilities for how we all live today.
"One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman." There is no such thing as a woman who is born confident and radiant — we all stumble, search, and grow into the body image and way of life that feel most like home, learning slowly how not to dislike ourselves so much. Documentary films quietly and honestly reflect women in their most unadorned states — ordinary, oppressed, loathed, awkward, or uninhibited — and all of these are part of who they are.
