Christian Petzold, the director of "Afire," said: "We need storytelling or we die." Yes, human existence is sustained by those who continuously tell stories in different ways. And I love finding those individual mirrors within the kaleidoscope of interwoven narratives, events, and characters. Viewers watch stories, reflecting on their own lives, and even though life is fleeting, art's influence on the intelligent beings will be projected into different times and spaces in the future, nearly eternally.
The pursuit of love is a fundamental human capacity. Turning life's disasters into something beautiful—that is the superpower born from the journey of love. In the suffocatingly homophobic atmosphere of the 1950s, The Price of Salt author Patricia Highsmith wrote the first lesbian novel with a happy ending, opening a window of hope and happiness for the LGBT community. She once said, “I have made up my mind to turn every disaster in my life into something beautiful.” The documentary Loving Highsmith opens in theaters on August 25. Inspired by her iconic words, MYSU Media has curated a diverse gender-themed film selection that invites audiences to engage with related stories. Through each journey in search of love, we resonate with the universal longing for beauty, connection, and the freedom to breathe.
Even in the face of noble causes, pure love demands its due. There may be no childhood promises of marriage, nor grand vows to take you to the moon — But here lies a love that is the purest, most romantic kind: A little mad, a little stubborn, but always about love. Through five timeless classics, this curated playlist explores stories of pure love forged in turbulent times — How the weight of history shaped love's innocence, and its inevitable heartbreak.
All-consuming love is enviable—but it comes at a steep price. After the thrill of romance comes the testing: jealousy, heartbreak, loss...How can fragile hearts possibly endure? Through a lover’s gaze, let us relive a once-in-a-lifetime love. Through cinema, let us feel the weight of eyelids swollen from tears, the mess of snot and saliva across a face contorted with grief, the unbearable ache of a heart being torn apart. Ah—blame it all on love!
After smoking, drinking and spooning, watch these films together.
