2025 TAIPEI DANGDAI ART & IDEASxGiloo
In 2025, Taipei Dangdai returns in collaboration with Giloo to present a themed film program exploring the boundaries between contemporary art and documentary cinema. This year’s on-site program features works by directors Su Hui-Yu and Shu Lea Cheang, using film to respond to the complex intersections of gender, the body, and history. Simultaneously, Giloo presents an online exhibition, curating a selection of related works to invite audiences, wherever they are, to keep watching, thinking, and engaging in dialogue. Moving images are not just records, but acts of perception and resistance. This cross-disciplinary collaboration connects the exhibition space with the digital cloud, opening up a broader field of view.

Those irreversible slices of life
Recently, in a novel I've come to love, I found myself grasping the weight of life's slices. In the story, there is a wicked sorcerer who freezes people in the instant just before tragedy strikes—suspending everything, sealing it into a crystal ball, and building an entire museum from these frozen moments. And isn't film, in its own way, just as cruel? As viewers, we are little more than instruments for collecting tissue slices—slipping into a character's world for a single fleeting moment, wandering through it in passing, only to return, in the blink of an eye, to the reality that is our own.
