The Untold Stories of Migration

Nearly one quarter of Canada’s population was born outside the country. Every path that leads someone here is far more than a straight line between two points. These paths may differ greatly, yet they resonate with one another. Centred on diaspora communities, this film series hopes to explore, through these works, the long negotiation with memory, language, identity, and belonging that people face after crossing national borders. Along these winding paths of migration, we are invited to rethink what home means. Equally important, we are invited to consider how we might better understand one another. Special thanks to our film selectors: Helena WU (Assistant Professor, UBC Asian Studies), Charlie SMITH (Editor, Pancouver), and becky (TAIWANfest team).

被笑稱是「讓台灣人都看不懂的台灣節」,因為不甘願只是一場文化展示,每年堅持都要與一個國家對話,在台灣、加拿大與世界之間挖掘故事、認識彼此,也探究共同未來。 More than a cultural festival, TAIWANfest serves as a platform for dialogue. Through films, culinary programs, performances, and conversations with communities from around the world, the festival creates space to explore shared histories, cultural connections, and the possibilities of a collective future.
