Taiwan Film Festival of Boston X New Taipei City Documentary Film Award | Virtual Film Festival

波士頓臺灣影展 Taiwan Film Festival of Boston , 感動,無所不在 新北市紀錄片系列活動 New Taipei City Documentar/10 films

The Taiwan Film Festival of Boston is dedicated to showcasing Taiwan’s diverse cultures and social landscapes through cinema while fostering meaningful exchange between Taiwanese filmmakers and North American audiences. Since 2011, the New Taipei City Documentary Film Award has supported documentary filmmaking and encouraged creators to engage with their times, capturing lived experiences and social realities through the moving image. Together, the two organizations present this virtual film festival, featuring outstanding works from past editions of the Taiwan Film Festival of Boston and the New Taipei City Documentary Film Award. By bringing Taiwanese stories of ecology, culture, identity, and coming of age beyond geographical boundaries, this collaboration invites audiences around the world to discover Taiwan through the lens of documentary filmmaking and engage in cross-cultural dialogue. Through the power of documentary cinema, the festival seeks to foster greater cross-cultural understanding, celebrate the creativity and vitality of Taiwan’s documentary tradition, and strengthen connections between New Taipei City, Taiwanese filmmakers, and international film communities. New Taipei City Documentary Award Section Title | Habitats of Life Envisioning a Sustainable Future Where People and the Environment Thrive Together From oceans and forests to where Indigenous communities and cities meet, life seeks ways to survive, grow, and belong. Where the Bees Belong, Hearing from the Dolphin, The Elimination, A Tayal, and Childhood In Between explore ecological conservation, wildlife conditions, cultural heritage, and identity, revealing complex relationships between people, nature, and society. As habitats shift and generations change, each story shows how life responds to environmental and social challenges while seeking new possibilities for coexistence. Echoing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this program invites audiences to reconsider habitat not only as a physical place, but also as an ecological, cultural, and emotional home—and to imagine a more diverse, inclusive, and sustainable future. The online screenings held in collaboration with the New Taipei City Documentary Film Awards concluded successfully on October 11. Some films have been taken offline as scheduled. We invite you to continue enjoying the other outstanding films available on the platform!

Those irreversible slices of life

Giloo紀實影音/8 films

Recently, in a novel I've come to love, I found myself grasping the weight of life's slices. In the story, there is a wicked sorcerer who freezes people in the instant just before tragedy strikes—suspending everything, sealing it into a crystal ball, and building an entire museum from these frozen moments. And isn't film, in its own way, just as cruel? As viewers, we are little more than instruments for collecting tissue slices—slipping into a character's world for a single fleeting moment, wandering through it in passing, only to return, in the blink of an eye, to the reality that is our own.

Like a Rolling Poem 2

Giloo紀實影音/6 films

Can a poem change the world? *Like a Rolling Poem 2* continues its music-documentary exploration rooted in poetry, transforming six poems into songs and confronting the questions that define contemporary life. In *I Want to Live with You*, we search through loneliness for the desires that lie deepest within us; in *Lullaby of the North-Link Railway*, we contemplate the turning of time and the unease of parting; through *A Romantic Affair*, we unravel an attachment in which love and hate spring from the same source; in *The Cat That Walks Through Walls*, we encounter the imagination of freedom amid confinement and historical displacement; through *Watching for a Longer Time*, the presumed equivalence of love and hate is overturned, making room for tenderness; and finally, in *Apocalypse Blues*, we cut through the haze of our times, face crisis head-on, and rediscover the resilience of everyday life. More than an encounter between modern poetry and contemporary music, this is a philosophical inquiry into the human condition. Even if the world is as fleeting as a dream or a bubble, we still possess the freedom to choose kindness and love—to let them stir within us, and keep rolling onward.
