今敏木木／今敏《妄想代理人》：千禧年後的個人恐懼與集體心魔 | Giloo紀實影音他《千年女優之道》一書中，今敏曾提到自己非常喜愛平澤進的音樂，而在《千年女優》中今敏如願與平澤進合作，他自己也非常滿意成果。於是在《妄想代理人》再度合作，透過一再重複卻又些微變化主旋律，營造懸疑的氣氛，與畫面相輔相成，成為日本TV動畫界最經典、最令人印象深刻的配樂。
第五集「聖戰士」，宛如遊戲版的《盜夢偵探》，將偵訊過程變成遊戲闖關的方式，虛實之間來回辯證與交錯，也顯現沉迷虛幻世界不一定會導致悲劇，它能夠變成傷人案件，也能成為尋找真兇的關鍵過程。重點在於人們的心態，面對虛幻世界，是逃避現實，還是單純享樂。
《妄想代理人》是今敏作為動畫導演唯一的電視動畫，與電影不同，一季的影集通常需要好幾個概念或故事線，才能讓觀眾投入長達六小時的故事，卻也不覺得膩。今敏雖然在過往電影與漫畫作品中，呈現不少高概念的故事型態，但通常只有一條故事線，於是像《妄想代理人》這種12集的群像劇，就能看出今敏豐沛的狂想以及鋪陳懸念的敘事能力。
