2012年春節，三個導演帶著一部16mm攝影機來到被稱作「鬼城」的甘肅玉門。在這座廢墟面前，他們試圖以外來者的方式記錄這座曾因產油盛極一時、如今卻被遺棄的城市。片中數個來歷不清的人物，遊蕩在荒蕪城鎮跟貧瘠地貌間。關於此地的傳說、謠言，結合他們自身隱晦不明的回憶，混淆了虛構和紀實，營造出向逝者呼喚的奇特氛圍。
