"This is a progress update video, not the final film." In the post-social movement era in Hong Kong, is suffering the only thing left for young people since 2019? As ordinary people live their lives as if nothing has happened, they ponder every day: without this incident, this crime, this unbearable burden weighing on their hearts, what kind of person would they become? The young man who narrowly escaped death after being injured during the social movement might now be riding his electric bike without a care in the world; the travel enthusiast who loves filming could have already emigrated; the stage actress might be planning her wedding with her boyfriend... But now, a multitude of charges and a prison sentence have changed an entire generation's life trajectory. During the 2019 social movement in Hong Kong, 10,279 people were arrested by the police, with approximately 2,899 of them either having faced or currently undergoing legal proceedings. Around 80% of them were convicted and sentenced to imprisonment or other punishments. The documentary "A Thousand Winds" transforms these numbers back into human stories, exploring how these individuals cope with this trial of their youth.
In August 2022, Giloo pioneered the "Giloo Fest 2023," launching an innovative experiment combining crowdfunding with short film proposals. The event attracted 343 Chinese-language short film project entries from around the globe, with 20 teams ultimately advancing to the finals.
