This year, Giloo teams up with TIDF to curate a special selection of past TIDF nominees and award-winning films. While you're enjoying the festival in person, don’t forget to sneak in a little break and relive (or... redeem?) some of the unforgettable works from previous editions—now available online.

For most people, “home” naturally refers to the place one returns to each day—a space of comfort and rest for both body and soul. Yet for many around the world, the feeling of having a home is unimaginable. At some point in their lives, they were forced to leave—because of war, politics, or simply in pursuit of a better life—and began a journey of drifting, searching for a new sense of home. While trying to settle and take root, they continue to yearn for the ghost of a homeland left behind. Can this new home ever replace what was lost? Faced with new identities and unfamiliar neighbors, how do they perceive themselves? Have they become someone new, or are they destined to remain like rootless water plants, adrift?

Images that appear real—once cut, rearranged, and reassembled—reveal a world flickering with firelight and illusion. A game, a dream— a documentary can also be just that: a dream. In this realm of moving images, where creators weave dreams from fragments of reality, are you the one dreaming? Or have you become part of the dream itself?

Dialogue takes practice—whether with others or with yourself. How do we find common ground when our values differ? And how do we learn to live with the parts of ourselves that feel unfamiliar? Through conversation, we not only get to know and draw closer to others, but also begin to see our own place in relationships—and in the world—with greater clarity. It is in these moments that we become more willing to walk alongside others, with openness and care.
The rights protected by the two covenants are vast and far-reaching—so much so that even if we narrated them like a modern-day One Thousand and One Nights, we might still never finish. And yet, there’s so much we want to say, and only so much we can say. From refugees and the principle of non-refoulement, to inclusive education for persons with disabilities; from climate change and the right to adequate food, to Losheng Sanatorium and the fight against forced eviction; from state violence to transitional justice—these layered issues form a dense, interwoven fabric. Even if we only manage to capture fleeting glimpses, we still hope that through each human rights film festival, and through every note we take along the way, we can preserve a few shimmering fragments of truth. Together, we may begin to outline the most vivid and realistic images of human rights. Don’t forget: After watching any film in this program, be sure to complete the survey. It’s not just a way to deepen your understanding of the human rights themes linked to the covenants—it’s also your chance to enter our prize draw!
Avoidance may not solve the problem—but not every problem needs solving. Sometimes, it simply gives you room to breathe, to think things through, or to take a break and watch a film on Giloo. This playlist is for you— who once avoided, are avoiding, or wish you could.
Exiles trapped day after day in concrete jungles. Border dwellers divided by three towering walls. Survivors of ethnic cleansing, still carrying the weight of loss. The world has never been fair—so where can those without a home find peace, safety, and dignity? Through the lens of documentary film, these displaced lives come into focus. They are no longer just cold statistics, but people with names, faces, and stories. In a year marked by upheaval, when the value of peace feels especially fragile, join Giloo in reflecting on the suffering of the stateless—and the greed that so often leads to tragedy.
