“As the saying goes, in martial arts, speed is everything.” To me, short animation is more than a space for experimentation and self-training—it’s where ideas are rapidly tested within limited duration, using refined visuals and sound to cut straight to the essence of storytelling. One night, I watched several shorts in a row—dreamlike and surreal, blending the absurd with realism, tenderness, and wit. Though brief and diverse in style, they leave a lasting emotional and intellectual resonance. They convinced me that short animation is a contemporary craft of speed, precision, and impact—striking straight to the core.
These films document the everyday through diverse experimental forms, reflecting the entanglement of self, gender, and history. From the fissures of collective memory to fragments of perception, each work reimagines the boundary between life and politics, body and identity. Within the everyday lie emotion, memory, and unease — a quiet dialogue between self and world, extending into technology, belonging, and the imagination of the future.
Each of us follows a line of our own—a trace of time, slowly shaped by the moments that make up a life. As that line stretches forward and meets another, crossing and intertwining, a story quietly begins. Some move swiftly, some slowly; some linger in the stillness of everyday life, while others find themselves caught in another's path. These dialogue-free animated shorts use minimalist lines and color to capture the subtle movements of life. When words fall silent, lines begin to speak. May these brief moments invite you to pause, step into these stories, and perhaps discover where your own line meets another.
