《妄想代理人》是今敏作為動畫導演唯一的電視動畫，與電影不同，一季的影集通常需要好幾個概念或故事線，才能讓觀眾投入長達六小時的故事，卻也不覺得膩。今敏雖然在過往電影與漫畫作品中，呈現不少高概念的故事型態，但通常只有一條故事線，於是像《妄想代理人》這種12集的群像劇，就能看出今敏豐沛的狂想以及鋪陳懸念的敘事能力。
