🎬 About This Film
Brotherhood Beyond Borders and Death
After enduring many challenges, Patrick Lindsay finally reached the stormy summit of Mt. Habel. On the rusted old iron box at the summit, he left this message:
“Hey Larry my brother,
I’m here with your Taiwanese team…”
It was addressed to a friend who had long departed this world, a partner with whom he had shared more than a decade of climbs, a cherished best friend and brother-in-arms.

In 2022, Larry Hsu, one of Taiwan’s most exceptional mountaineers, lost his life while attempting an unprecedented route on the north face of Yushan’s East Peak. Known both in Taiwan and abroad, he had earned a reputation as a master of ice and rock climbing. His years of training in Canada and his experience across mountain ranges worldwide shaped him into a key figure in Taiwan’s modern climbing community.
It was during his time overseas that Larry met Patrick Lindsay. Despite coming from different countries and cultural backgrounds, the two developed a longstanding partnership. They climbed together on countless routes, sharing challenges, risk, and the kind of trust that only develops on a mountain face.
After Larry’s passing, Patrick decided to return to Taiwan. He teamed up with young Taiwanese climber Su Jun-Yi and the director of this documentary Wang I-Hsin, forming an expedition team. Their goal was to revisit the north face of Yushan’s East Peak—the very route Larry had been attempting, and to complete a journey that had been left unfinished.

The Spirit of Adventure Lives On
After Larry died, Patrick continued his involvement in Taiwan by mentoring the next generation of adventurers. Through this work, he met Wang I-Hsin, the director of this documentary, and their encounter became the starting point for I-Hsin’s decision to document this story.
The mentorship between Patrick and Taiwan’s young climbers represents more than technical guidance. It reflects the ongoing transmission of values, determination, and courage. In many ways, this connection symbolizes the continued life of the north face’s spirit on this island of mountains.

The Island of Hundreds of Summits
Despite being a small island, Taiwan is home to nearly 300 steep mountains, forming one of the most dramatic high-altitude landscapes in Asia. This environment has nurtured generations of world-class climbers and shaped a unique mountain culture on the island.
This film is not only a story of friendship. It is also the first documentary to capture an epic high-altitude attempt on a north face in Taiwan, showcasing the striking terrain of the north face of Yushan’s East Peak. Through its images, the film brings viewers into the heart of a daring ascent, exemplifying Taiwan's small yet significant value on a global scale.
