In celebration of Pride Month, Giloo will present a series of queer films this June. This year, our theme is “(Un)happy Pride Month.” It reflects the idea that “pride” was never achieved overnight, but carved out through generations of resistance—by those who came before us, who endured repression and pain, and left behind traces of struggle in the darkness with their bodies, blood, and tears. And “queer,” as an identity that refuses to be defined by traditional labels, has never had just one form. Queer people can be joyful, but also angry, confused, and sorrowful; they can be brave, but also vulnerable.
