Giloo presents a selection of 6 music documentaries, spanning genres like film scoring, classical pianists, rock bands, and more. Delve into the inner worlds of musicians through their confessions and feelings, and gain firsthand perspectives from their musical collaborators and close friends. Beyond a glimpse into their lives off-stage, this collection attempts to get closer to the creators' core and emotions.

Classical is elegance. Classical is romance. Classical is also wild, and untamed.
I love reading life stories—especially those of creators and artists. There’s something deeply satisfying about watching how they question the world, and how they choose to respond in their own way. Life comes with all kinds of limitations. But thought and perspective—they remain free. Where we choose to look, how deeply we choose to see, and how we turn that vision into creative expression that stirs the world—this, to me, is the most powerful way of living: to carve a new path through what is expected or deemed impossible.

When you think of your favorite film, chances are the first thing that comes to mind is its unforgettable music. A film’s score breathes life into its story—it is the soul beneath the visuals. Behind each moving melody lies an extraordinary level of artistry, craft, and emotional labor far beyond what we see (or hear) on screen. In conjunction with Hans Zimmer: The Sound of Hollywood, a special concert taking place at the Taipei Music Center from April 21 to 24, 2022, Giloo Documentaries presents a curated playlist celebrating the magic of film scores. Join us as we journey into the imaginative world of cinematic music.
As a child, Lunar New Year was filled with rituals that stretched on forever: visiting flower markets on the first day, returning to Mom’s hometown on the second, sleeping in without guilt on the third, welcoming deities and appeasing spirits on the fourth, and opening shop on the fifth in hopes of great fortune. Especially after years of turbulence, watching a festive film during the holidays has become both a small indulgence and a quiet affirmation that life still holds its rhythm. A moment to feel that flutter of the heart, or to follow one’s instincts without question— letting that sense of tradition, pure and timeless, softly settle in, like a long-lost lover returning, slowly making their way toward us…
I used to be drawn to those who leapt without hesitation. Of course, such fascination in youth often carries a trace of naivety. Only now, having walked further down my own path, do I feel confident enough to say I understand— Understand those who, despite spending their entire lives on a single road, hold within their eyes and hearts an entire universe. Understand the kind of resolve they’ve made, the kind of philosophy they’ve found, that allows them to stop overthinking, to throw themselves wholly into one person, one thing, one idea, one yearning. This playlist is a personal offering—a collection of beautiful leaps I’ve tucked away with a trembling heart, now carefully shared with you.
