The Taiwan International Human Rights Film Festival, organized by the National Human Rights Museum, enters its 6th year in 2022. Through a diverse selection of films, the festival aims to spark public dialogue and reflection on human rights issues, and to put the universal values of democracy and human rights into meaningful action. In response to this year’s International Council of Museums (ICOM) theme, “The Power of Museums,” and the emergence of a groundbreaking new definition of museums, the curatorial team presents a special section titled Whose Museum. Through six thought-provoking films, audiences are invited to reflect on how museum collections — across different times and spaces — can engage in dialogue with the present era, while reconsidering the role and influence of museums in contemporary society. Additionally, the Human Rights in Focus section features four films that delve into pressing contemporary issues such as ethnic conflict, state violence, and environmental justice — offering mirrors for thought and action within civil society.
