很勵志 看哭了都
從早期得獎影片觀察起，羅興階、顏蘭權、莊益增、黃淑梅、蔡崇隆等紀錄片導演接力奪得南方首獎，可以看見 90 年代紀錄片工作者人文精神的延續，也反應著當時臺灣電影紀錄片比劇情片較為主流的生態樣貌。 許多得獎紀錄片如《無米樂》、《翻滾吧！男孩》等也陸續進入商業院線並獲得成功，期待成為臺灣新銳在金穗獎到台北電影節之間中介的搖籃，也是全球華人影像創作者在邁向金馬獎前的初登板，早期更有「金馬獎前哨戰」或「風向球」 之稱，可能也來自大家對於這些得獎紀錄片的關注。 —— 節錄自王振愷《光源下放電影：南方影展二十年》，頁163 https://www.books.com.tw/products/0010926050
臺灣雖有相當多設有「競賽單元」的影展，但每個影展的定位和規則都不同。金馬獎定位為華語電影的奧斯卡獎，並且只限定膠捲（Film）才能參加；台北電影節定位為臺灣年度電影創作總體檢，噱頭是有著百萬獎金；而南方影展則以鼓勵本土影像創作為目標，且特別注重年輕創作者和被忽略的優秀作品。 正因為這項特色，使得許多創作者放心將南方影展視為「初登板」的對象。像是 2003 年的《二十五歲，國小二年級》、2004 年的《無 米樂》與《翻滾吧 ! 男孩》、2005 年的《海巡尖兵》，這些日後大放異彩的作品都是在南方影展獲得生涯首次獎項。 —— 節錄自王振愷《光源下放電影：南方影展二十年》，頁73-74 https://www.books.com.tw/products/0010926050
影片中的小男孩們充滿朝氣和活力，雖然訓練辛苦，但個個充滿鬥志。導演不只呈現他們訓練、比賽的樣貌，連每個小孩子的生活，個性都完整紀錄，其中最特別的是，在影片中的李智凱，在長大後真的在奧運中奪下獎牌，也讓這部紀錄片格外有意義。
看完這部紀錄片真的很敬佩那些全心投入、專注在練習自己項目的選手！在場上的每一個動作、每一個姿勢，都是台下流了很多汗水、練習無數次的成果！教練嚴肅嚴格的背後，藏有對他們的期待。最後拿到好的成績真的很令人感動！也看到辛苦努力都會有回報的！
本片完整的紀錄了體操隊練習時的酸甜苦辣，讓我想到我從小身邊就有許多體育班、舞蹈班的朋友，在其他同齡的孩子們玩耍時，他們就已經不是在練習場上就是在前往練習的路上，小小的身軀承載著大大的辛苦，卻也是為未來的夢想成功之路鋪墊。其中除了透過體操隊孩子們的童言童語，增添了以往一般紀錄片不會有的活潑可愛、天真浪漫的氛圍，中間時不時還會穿插教練的心酸過往故事，讓整部片看起來一點都不枯燥乏味。
